Soooo..

I signed up for the half and haven't run since. I do have a semi-valid excuse. I had to get my Advair refilled, you know, so I can breathe. I've now done that, and I officially have no excuses, except the crappy weather, but if you listen close enough, you can hear the treadmill calling my name.

I plan to ignore it today, but tomorrow is another day, friends..stick around!

I saw this in a recent issue of Runners Times..its BRILLIANT! They're hats/visors that hold up to SIX gels! Why didn't I think of this...

It's official...

I've signed up for a race. There is a half marathon in Chicago on June 7th, and I'm in. This means I need to run on a regular basis, but not the crazy marathon training miles (although, I haven't completely ruled out the Chicago Marathon this year again.)

And lucky me, I picked a weekend to get back in the groove that is supposed to include 6+ inches of snow. Enough already, I'm done with winter. The good news, is by mid-week, it's supposed to be near 40. Rain, but near 40. I'll take any progress we can get....

What????

"Forbes Rates Chicago 3rd Most Miserable City"

Yep, that's the headline. The article goes on to cite reasons as sales tax, public corruption, the weather, the unemployment rate and the fact that it's been 100+ years since the Cubs won a world series.

Sure, all of that is true...the sales tax is ridiculously high and well, what can we say about the corruption in current Illinois government, but that isn't specific to Chicago lately. Yes, the University of Chicago medical center just announced layoffs, but isn't it a down economy everywhere?

But the rest?? Everyone in Chicago knows the Cubs haven't won a world series in 100+ years, and yeah, that stinks, but enough to be miserable? No...the fans still show up at the games and have a great time. Miserable? Have you seen fans at a Cubs game? There's no misery, alot of beer, yes, but no misery.

An the weather? Yes, it's cold in January. BUT WE ALL KNOW THAT. No one moves here for the winters. Sometimes, you get a glorious day like today, February 10th and almost 60 degrees.

Come on, Forbes, Chicago is an amazing city. We might not be happy all the time, but we love our city!!!
