Once Again For The First Time/American Cancer Society

For those that do not know, my Dad made a CD several years ago. "Once Again for the First Time" is the title. Considering Chi07's marathon results, I thought I'd hijack the CD title for the blog address.

Speaking of my Dad, I will be running Chi08 to raise funds for the American Cancer Society (ACS) again, in honor of him, as well as those friends, family & others who have been affected by cancer.

The ACS did an amazing job at the marathon last year - their tent was huge, they supplied plenty of food & beverages for their charity runners and there was amazing support along the route. Not only is ACS a wonderful and much needed charity, the ACS team is a great group of people.

Here We Go!

I've decided to sign up for the Chicago Marathon again this year! Crazy, maybe, but I have unfinished business with those 26.2 miles.

As most people have heard, last year was a nightmare - hot, humid, not enough hydration (in my opinion) and runners dropping like flies. This year, it will be different. Really, we can't have that TWO years in a row, can we?

So, I'm back - and excited. I know more this year. I know I can train alone without having to run in circles around Independence Grove, the streets of Gurnee work just fine, with plenty of places to buy more Gatorade. I know I have the strength to start, and more importantly, the strength to finish.

While I've always admired those who have conquered the marathon, I never thought I'd be one of those people. Especially one who is doing it twice...well, sort of.

So, I plan to record my progress & thought here so all my family & friends can share in my misery and hopefully, my eventual triumph!
